9 Migrating the EBS 12.2.14 Database 12c to ASM (19c Grid)

 

9.1       19c Grid Installation Standalone on Linux 8

9.1.1     Download the 19c Grid software 





9.1.2     Create user oraasm for grid home. dba group was already present on my server. If it is not present, please create it.



useradd -g dba -c "ASM user" -d /home/oraasm -s /bin/bash oraasm
useradd -g oinstall -c "ASM user" -d /home/oraasm -s /bin/bash oraasm
uid=54323(oraasm) gid=54322(dba) groups=54322(dba),54321(oinstall)



9.1.3     I will create disk for ASM but not using oracleasm utility but using udev.


Udev is the mechanism used to create and name /dev device nodes corresponding to the devices that are present in the system. Udev uses matching information provided by sysfs with rules provided by the user to dynamically add the required device nodes.

 

9.1.3.1      Attach a raw disk to the server.

 

9.1.3.2      Use lsblk or fdisk -l command to find the new added disk names.

 

example:

 

/dev/sdg
/dev/sde
/dev/sdf
/dev/sdc
/dev/sdd

 

9.1.3.3      Find the ID_Serial for each associated disk, if we directly use the disk name it might get chnaged after the server reboot.

9.1.3.4      Asmdevices rules

Go to cd /etc/udev/rules.d directory and add the new disk details in file 99-oracle-asmdevices.rules as below. Make sure to update ID_SERIAL with your correct value and disk owner and group should be correct based on the env. Also I will give a virtual name/symbolink for eash disk as oraasm01/02/03 etc.

9.1.3.5      Reload the udev rules to identify the new disks.

 

udevadm control --reload-rules

9.1.3.6     Verify the disk permissions and permissions

9.1.3.7      Make sure the ASM disk string should be set as  asm_diskstring='/dev/ora*' to identify the disks.

 

9.1.3.8      Attach the new disks to the diskgroup in asm now.

 

alter diskgroup TEST add disk '/dev/oraasm01' rebalance power 5;

9.1.4     Verify the disk now.

9.1.5     Make a directory Structure or mount point  for grid installation

 

Connect as oraasm (My Grid OS user which will be used for installation)

 

9.1.6     Grid home

[oraasm@fbstest oraapps122]$ mkdir -p /u01/app/FBS/db/grid19c

 

 

9.1.7     Copy the grid software zip file on the path.

 

 

[oraasm@fbstest grid19c]$ cp /tmp/LINUX.X64_193000_grid_home.zip /u01/app/FBS/db/grid19c/

 

 

9.1.8     Install pre-req for 19c on server from root user

 

yum search preinstall
 
yum install oracle-database-preinstall-19c.x86_64 -y

 

9.1.9     Unzip the grid software and remove the zip file then

 

[oraasm@fbstest grid19c]$ cd /u01/app/FBS/db/grid19c
[oraasm@fbstest grid19c]$ unzip LINUX.X64_193000_grid_home.zip





9.1.10                             Install the cvu disk package from the unzip grid software from root user

 

rpm -ivh /u01/app/FBS/db/grid19c/cv/rpm/cvuqdisk-1.0.10-1.rpm

9.1.11                             Launch the grid installer (gridSetup.sh) from oraasm user

Set Redundancy as external

Set the Discovery path as /dev/ora*

 

 



 

Make sue you can see new  disk which we created in earlier steps

9.2       Check the Location of the Parameter File, Control file, Temp files, Redo Log files

9.3       Make sure you have the diskgroup.

 

I have already created a diskgroup name as EBS_DATA

 



9.4       Create ASM password(if not done or present) file to take a new name with actual path. Use -f to force create the file otherwise the command will say already file exists. Also make sure password is complex.

Compare permissions of GRID home and database home

across the cluster, make sure that permissions on oracle binary are identical on each node. For example, GRID_HOME oracle permission should be 6751


To correct the permission, as owner of oracle binary:


cd $GRID_HOME/bin
chmod 6751 oracle

 

From DB home register to srvctl

9.5  Add ASM entry in tnsnames.ora ifile on Database
